What is E-Sports?

October 08, 2015 2 min read

Have you heard of E-sports?

If not, it’s okay. This has only recently come into the mainstream, so many noobs (not that you’re a noob of course) are only now hearing of the glory that is E-sports or competitive PC gaming (no not just LAN party in your parent’s basement type of competitive), we’re talking about the real deal. . E-sports or pro-gaming (depending where you’re from the name changes) is basically organized extreme multiplayer video game competitions, often between professional players (yes, professionals... you can be a professional gamer…). There are several game genres in which you can do this, but most common E-sports genres are first-person shooter, real-time strategy, fighting, and multiplayer online battle arena.

There are an increasing number of tournaments in which you can professionally pwn some noobs … okay, well, not noobs… but where you can be challenged to battle other great pro- gamers such as the Intel Extreme Masters, the League of Legends World Championship, International Dota 2 Championships, the Evolution Championship Series, and the Battle.net World Championship Series. These tournaments all provide live broadcasts of the competition so people can watch you from all over the world, and cash prizes to competitors (and some big ones at that). These competitions have seen a large outpouring in popularity beginning in the late 2000s. In 2013 approximately 71,500,000 people worldwide watched competitive gaming (that’s no laughing matter). The increasing popularity and availability of online streaming media platforms, are central to the evolution and promotion of E- Sports competitions. Gaming is serious business, so if you want to make a career out of being a pro gamer, it is going to take some dedication, practice, and some serious equipment. I mean… you don’t see a construction worker building a house with a dollar store hammer, a professional makeup artist using their fingers instead of brushes… no, you need to get the best tools for your trade. And no that doesn’t mean that you have to spend a fortune… All this means is that you need to have the right tools that gives you the the speed, power and performance that is essential to be a pro gamer, because if your system just too slow to play the latest MMOFPS and RPG’s that is nothing but trouble!

If you’re just starting out and haven’t invested in the right PC it is important to know that like all things… it takes money to make money. Just like Lawyers and Doctors have to pay for their special education, farmers have to pay for their equipment, and musicians need to pay for their lessons and instruments, you need to make an investment in your career. If you’re not sure about it you can always invest in a tier 1 PC, something that will harnesses powerful Accelerated Processing, and is configurable up to 32GB of DDR3 14900 memory. If you begin to get serious about pro-gaming… Remember that to be the best you need to have the best… which means you would move up to a higher tier computer giving you a higher power computer that easily takes on tasks with up to 8 AMD processing cores. So if you’re ready to go pro now you know how to go FTW.
